Helen Lamar Kleis was born March 22, 1923 in Lawrence, Indiana to Theodore and Ida Lamar. She lived most of her life in Lawrence Township, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1941 and for over 40 years enjoyed life residing on Finchley Rd in the Castleton area. More recently she lived in Robin Run Retirement Community.
She follows in passing her brothers Truman and Heber Lamar and sisters Violet Toon and Sylvia Roberts.
She is survived by her husband Charles Kleis, and children Carol Marie Kleis (husband Dr. Rex A. Parker) and Mark Charles Kleis (wife Debra H. Kleis); and by three grandchildren Victoria Rose Hopkins (husband Benjamin Hopkins, Gregory Charles Kleis, Douglas Mark Kleis (wife Dodie Kleis); and one great granddaughter Kaitlyn Rose Hopkins.
For many years Mrs. Kleis was a Boy and Girl Scout leader and was active in PTA, Beta Beta Latrian service sorority, Dorkas bible study, and Castleton Methodist church. She worked at Citizens Gas and Coke Utility more than ten years in public relations and as editor of The Flame professional publication. There she met Charles with whom she eventually shared over 60 years of marriage. Husband, children, and extended family and friends were her life’s joy.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Harry W. Moore Funeral Home, 8151 Allisonville Road, with the funeral held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
She will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery.
